Nestling at the foot of the Chyulu hills is Finch Hattons. FH is one man’s dream of the ideal – a genuine conservation friendly, luxury tented lodge, named after the aristocrat who introduced royalty to the bush and whose style was impeccable. For Denys, Morzat and cut crystal were essential kit. This is the style that gave birth to the idea that is FH. Now you can enter this rather different world and enjoy a fresh perspective.

Fifty five minutes by air from Nairobi or Mombasa into the airstrip at Kampi ya Simba (camp of the lion) places you in the very heart of Tsavo, to a place 65kms from the nearest road. Here at FH, mineral water simply bubbles forth up out of the rock to form 3 huge hippo pools. Some say this is a paradise, this is home.

The 35 acres that form Finch Hattons Lodge are unfenced; lion, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, plains game (including the lasser kudu) come and go as they please. They are most welcome, for reality this is their home, shared with resident hippo and crocs. The former are sure to pass by many of the tents at night; for this is their time for grazing and FH tents have been thoughtfully located along their walkways. The ecology of FH is closely monitored by wildlife experts.

Under canvas Yes but hardly ‘roughing it.’ Your tent is equipped with deluxe beds and all of the amenities of a room in a five star hotel, supply of electricity (220 & 110v), fully stocked mini-bar, ensuite toilet, wash basin, and generous slate walled shower room, both complete with their piping hot and cold running water, primarily solar heated.

The Main Lodge comprises of Dining Hall, Lounge/Bar and the terrace where breakfast is served overlooking the main hippo pool against the backdrop of mount Kilimanjaro.

How to get to Finch Hattons
The most convenient way is by Light Aircraft to our all weather airstrip, the heliport just outside the camp; or by road entering tsavo west from Mtito Andei Gate, head for Kilaguni then Kitani. Alternatively exit Chyulu gate, turn left after 15 kms and follow the road 9 kms to the camp.
